Samsung gets official with 8 megapixel SCH-W740

We first caught wind of Samsung's SCH-W740 way back on Halloween of last year, and at long last the handset has gone official over in South Korea. Matching up with LG's Renoir, Nokia's N86 and a slew of other emerging 8 megapixel phones, the W740 packs a pretty stellar camera along with a 3.3-inch touchscreen, HSUPA, Bluetooth 2.0, an e-dictionary, T-DMB TV tuner and loads of haptic feedback. As for the camera itself, it features face detection, scene modes, a Xenon flash and a smile shutter for good measure. Word on the street has it surfacing soon for ?900,000 ($660).

Samsung taking Beat DJ style downmarket with M2310 and M2710

If you're liking the look of the Beat DJ but you're dreading the presumably upscale price tag, Sammy's got an answer for you: the M2310 and M2710. Both handsets ape key elements of the Beat DJ's style (okay, at least they do if you squint really, really hard) but adopt flip and slider form factors, respectively. Neither has been officially announced by the company, but it seems that they're already starting to show up in Brazil with EDGE data, Bluetooth, FM radio, and -- on the M2710, anyway -- an accelerometer, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2 megapixel camera. No word on pricing or availability in other parts of the world just yet.

Samsung's MBP200 pico PJ, i7410 projector phone get ship dates

Two of Samsung's smallest beamers just got prices and release dates, but sadly, neither are in US dollars. The MBP200 pico projector will reportedly ship this May across the pond for €499 ($637), while the i7410 (more commonly referred to as the Show) will hit during the summertime for a price still to be determined. We know, it's not the bucketful of information you wanted, but it's something to whet your appetite until the suits at Sammy give us the dirty details we're really after.

Verizon's Samsung Smooth is not

Calling a bottom-of-the-line, EV-DO-less clamshell the "Smooth" might be reaching, but then again, we can kinda understand Verizon's dilemma here -- it's not like you can call it the "Rough," the "Disappointment," or the "Crap" and expect to sell too many. The phone, which goes by the u350 moniker when it's dealing with the FCC, should be within shouting distance of free on contract (after the $50 rebate is applied) thanks to a VGA cam, lack of memory expansion, and the aforementioned lack of 3G data. A good backup phone? Sure, but a smooth backup phone? That's a stretch, guys. Look for this one to be on shelves before the month's out.
